Default valve cover gaskets

I just change covers on my car today and i had some felpro rubber gaskets it says they are made under size so you will have to strecth them so they fit so i did but they never fit i strected them so much they broke, so i got some gasket maker and ran a thick bead along the valve cover i hope they seal, does anyone think that was a bad idea if so, why

I wouldn't think it would be a huge deal as long as it's a good solid bead and it doesn't get smeared when you put the cover on. Let the bead dry before you start running it though. At the worst you will just have to buy some gaskets, btw i'm selling some and throw them in there, doesn't take long.

that is weird that the gasket would tear, I have used Perma Dry Gaskets from Fel Pro, they are the best they are a little expensive, but you can reuse the valve cover gaskets so its nice.

as far as the RTV, as long as you made a nice consistent bead and let it cure (5-10 minutes) before installing it you should be fine, but if the bead was erratic and you just put on the valve covers as soon as you finished the bead like I have seen alot of people do, you will have leakage.

But as far as the gaskets ripping, Fel Pro has a really good warranty and I think if you take it back to the parts store where you bought it they will defect it out for you, read the warranty on the box it might go under workmanship and defect.

Thats crazy that they broke, they are a pain in the *** sometimes to stay in the cover as you go to put them back on the car, but I've never seen them rip.

Yea, I have the stock ones, and never had a problem. They are pretty good from the Factory.

Mine are the blue ones, I just reused them. They are dang tough. Are you sure you got the right ones? Mine fit perfectly, don't really have to force them on.
