Hey just finished up my motor and really need to get it to the ground, someway besides the 7.5 10 bolt i have now. Just wondering on anyones experiance and what would be my best choice. I beilieve i would have to get a new Driveshaft if i was to go with a ford 9 inch correct? thanks for your input

i run the same drive shaft i had with my stock rear, in the 9" i have now. you will need a "bastard joint". which mates the gm driveshaft to the ford rear. most autoparts stores carry them. if i had to do it over again, i would go with the 12 bolt or the strange s60. the 9" takes more power to turn than any of the others. it slowed my car down .15 in the 8th and around .25 in the 1/4. that doesnt seem like alot to some but it is to me.

Although the nine inch does take more power to turn it also has less breakage. There are alot of fast cars running 12 bolts without any issues but it's alot less often that people have gear issues etc with a nine. I did a nine inch with the true trac posi and it was awesome. No noise and took alot of abuse and it was great on the street

I like the 9-inch. But what is the cost compared to a S-60? I heared they are stronger and lighter.

just guessing, 20-25hp? maybe. i would think the strange s60 would be stronger than both. although it could possibly be heavier it would still take less power to turn.

I bet the nine inch only takes an extra 15 hp but it also weighs probably 75-100lbs more than a 10 bolt(just guessing)

You could opt for the aluminum center section for the 9" which puts the weight of the 9" slightly less than the 12 bolt (from what I have seen).

I would go with the 9". I love mine. Gearing can make up for the HP loss

the aluminum center sec. is supposed to be 18lbs. lighter and they claim stronger than the factory modular unit. i'm not sure how much an alum. spool is lighter than a posi. unit but, its a few lbs.i'd guess 10lbs. i run an alum. spool myself with a stock cast iron center section. they make a lightened gear thats around 6lbs. lighter but, the highest gear ratio is 4.11 and goes to 5.+. none of them are indestructable, i've broke mine twice. maybe a lightened gear would make up for some of the lost power? i read an article where they dyno'd a car then removed and polished the ring and pinion, reinstalled it and picked up 4hp.

I'll have to ask my buddy what options his 9" had......his 9" weighs the same as my 12 bolt and I know he has the aluminum center section. I remember being pretty suprised when I saw the scale with his 9" on it.

In any event, I would go with a 9" in a M6 car or a 12 bolt in an auto.
