Unhappy Volts

Hey everyone...

I've been in and out of commission, and I attempted to drive my bird today...replaced my alternator and battery due to my volts dropping...I went through 3 alternators thus far and my car's still dropping voltage? I just got done driving it and now it wont turn over, so it wasn't charging the battery....

I've been thinking it was the voltage regulator on the back of my alt, but after going through 3 of them..the problem is still there...

Any ideas guys?

Thanks so much in advance

have you checked the wires to make sure none are shorted out? Do you have a fluke or some kind of meter you can see if it has a short under the wires cover

also check the wire for the regulator that clips on the bottom. my connector is messed up so every once in a while it will stop charging and i have to wiggle it. the pin is loose in the connector i believe but cant make it any tighter. also check the power wire that goes to the batt. only two wires on the alt so it shouldnt be hard to find the problem

just check to make shure you have a good connection on the battery and you are connected well at the alt. I would get a meter from the parts store and check to see what id going on when the car is running and see if the alt is charging.

I hobbled to my car today and checked the positive to the alternator, the part that connects to the positive battery cable connector was CORRODED like NUTS.

It must have had a cable with 16 individual copper lines in it, with only 3 connected...I stripped the wire back some, reconnected it and she's running a perfect 14.5 / 13.5 when warmed up.

Thanks for the help guys, problem solved!
