Default ignition problem guessing game.

I have a 97 lt1 camro and i have got a ingnition problem that i am confused on. When i put the key in and turn it to the power i get power from the battery and everything works, but i am not getting any power from my fuel pump, or my electric waterpump or anything when i try to start the car. i know it is not the fuel pump of my waterpump because my car did not do that when i put them on. But anyways i have noticed that the metal rod going from the key cylinder to the ignition switch is not moving with my key when i turn it. But also i have had this problem befor with my car not startin like this, but i did unplug the connection to my ignition switch and pugged it back in and the car fired up when i tried. So i am thinking that its my ignition switch but also i dont know if the rod has broke of fallen off at the key cylinder part, i have wiggled it and it still feels tight, but i am just not sure witch one it is. I tried moving that rod manually myself and turning the key and that did not work either. So the things i think it could possibly be are my ignition switch, broken rod, or a key cylinder. I hope that i made since with all of this and if anyone has question feel free to ask and let me know on some opinions.

Thanks, Josh

the rod should move when you turn the key.
I just put in a ignition yesturday I had the same probs you had but my rod was moving when I turned the key so I know it was the switch.
you will need a new key switch plus depends how many miles you have on your ride I would change the ignition switch, my gauges was bouncing around when I was driving and even trying to cut off and when youu turn the key to start some times it would hassate alittle then start...
switch was only total $30.
BUT a pain to put in you have to drop your whole steering colum
good luck.

yea thanks man i went and bought a ignition mod today hoping that was it and dropped the column and now i just got on and read your post about what you did and i had guessed right lol. it was not fun pulling the column but this was my first time at doing this, and i did not realize there are two rods so i found the top rod and it moves so that made me more toward the switch. But i am only 17 so i am pretty proud of myself for doin this by myself.
