My Brother did that to his old 97 Camaro

it did breath better but your risking it

something could go in your motor

and my bro just riped it out..

he put a hole in it with a flat head than went from there...

Most likely he lost performance. The MAF screen straightens airflow through the MAF. If you descreen it and dont tune it to compensate youl'l lose performance.

It really isn't worth it. I took mine off before and it didn't make a difference on the track. And you can remove the ring holding the screen in place. I forgot how I did it, but I more than likely used a pair of pliers and a small flat head screwdriver.

I have ported a LOT of MAFs and descreened them. Descreening the MAF doesn't seem to make much, if any difference, but porting the MAF has made a noticeable difference. Just make sure to have your computer tuned for the changes or like others have said, you will likely lose performance.

I don't know about the LT1 cars, but I just wired in a 85mm MAF out of a LS6 Z06 in to my Harness for my 402. Anyone know if this would work for the LT1's..

It should work but you'd need to calibrate the pcm assuming the frequency ranges from 1488hz to 11216hz. Do you know the frequency range of the LS6 MAF?

Since it is a straightener, theoretically if you have a ram air/ultra z setup then I guess you can take it out. I have the Ultra Z setup but have not removed the screen. Any thoughts on that?

I believe you need 9 inches of straight pipe before the MAF to run it without the screen.
