Default quick octane question

a quick search yielded nothing. what is the manufacturers recommended octane for a 1996 lt1. i dont have an owners manual or window sticker.

depends on the LT1. is it in a B-Body or F-Body/Y-Body? B-Bodies can do regular, and F/Y-Bodies require premium.

f-body. im just making 100% sure between 89 or 93 octane

I have a 96' LT1 and looked it up in the manual a while back. It said premium premium premium. "91 or higher" if i do recall

If those are your choices, go with the higher octane. It will run on the lower octane, but the PCM will retard timing (and power) to compensate.

do not run the 87 its sucks and you get bad gas mileage and your car will run like ****

I had a 96, It says minimum 91 octane. I have once or twice ran 87 in it without noticing anything. But I wasn't driving the snot out of it, if I did I would notice it. That was right after I bought the car. I always ran 93 and ocassionally ran 91 in it. 104 runs really nice, motor feels really smooth and strong no matter what RPM.

My 96 has a tune for 91 but it gets 93 or 94. 91 is hard to find around here lol.
