Crane Cam Hello All: I was discussing my rebuild with a mechanic buddy of mine and I was telling him I wanted to go with the Crane 227 "Baby" cam. He was looking over the specs and he had a question that I could not answer, so I figured I should post here and see what you guys think. The specs on that cam: lift on the intake is 210 but on the exhaust it is at 224. His question was why there was such a gap betwwen the sides, because, the lt1 burns pretty clean and most aftermarket cams are gapped closer? He suggested a Comp Cam he used before...

That cam was designed with the stock LT1 heads in mind, which have a very restrictive exhaust port relative to the intake port. The wide split helps balance this out and is one of the reasons the 227 is such a good performer with stock heads.
