Default Car is going to 260+ degrees!!!!

Got the motor all together and it starts up and runs great! But right before i shut her down i realized the temp guage reads "260" so i imeadiatly shut it off. After about 1-2 minutes the car was started again and the guage read 180 at startup. but then quickly rose to 260 ( about about 20 seconds ). The waterpump is new and it has 2gallons of PEAK 50/50 coolant in it. I opened the radiator cap and was wondering if i could top it off with water? The bottle says not to but i think 2gallons may not be enough.

It's running open headers with no o2's right now. Has EGR deleted and no Air pump. lemme know what yall think!

Takes close to 4 gallons to fill the entire system.

Did you check your thermostate on the stove ?

Sounds like either the system needs more coolant/water mix or the waterpump is not working.
Did you bleed out the air bubbles when you filled it?
Also, make sure you use an LT1 thermostat (the tall ones) not a SBC thermostat
and that it is installed with the spring down.

With the car cooled down, pop the radiator cap and check the fluid level.
Also start the car and see if coolant is being pumped into the radiator
(should be a solid stream just below the cap)

Make sure you keep close to a 50/50 mix of water and coolant.
Too much of either will cause cooling problems.
If you already put in 1gal of coolant and 1gal of water, add an equal amount of each until it's full.

yah fill the rest with water or coolant just get something in there. I would let the car cool down completley. then fill it and make to open the bleed screws to get the air out. Then let it idle with the cap off until the thermostat opens at that point you should see some air come out and need to add some water. Do this and then check it again when it cools off.

all that is correct. i think its not enough coolant cause i cant even see any when i open the radiator cap. Can i fill the rest of the system up with water? or two more gallons of peak?

2 gallons of straight anti-freeze is correct. Then top off with water but if its a brand new motor and using 50/50 peak it will take close to 4 gallons of peak. dont top off with water because its a 50/50 mix.
