Default Best Stroker Rods for 4.0 inch Stroke

I picked up a slightly used 4 inch stroke crank and I'd like to see
what Rods are being used when fitting this size crank in an LT1 or SBC block.

I'd like to stay in the $675 or less range.. Im considering Crowers, Compstars,
and Lunati's but am open to other suggestions. 5.850 length is my current
direction... I'd consider 6.0 or 5.7... I don't want to run a smaller base
circle cam. Compstar advertises clearing a 4.0 crank without mods or smaller cam on their website.... I'd just like to hear this from someone who's used their rods. I have no problem using 327 small journal or 1.88 Cup sized rods to
help with clearance.

I'd like to stay on topic if we could here... I know there are those who
will suggest not going past 3.875 on stroke...Im locked in on building with this
4.0 stroke and so I'd like to stay talking about the nuts and bolts of
the Big issue....... Rod clearance and making the 4.0 work.

No replies yet?? Mickey Thompson offered a 4.0 inch stroke crank for the
SBC back in the early 60's...... he used altered Buick rods...
No one attempting 414 ci from a 350 block?? Surely there are other
curious gearheads wanting to do this.

I had a 410ci LT1 a few years ago. I would recommend the Oliver rods (Billet or forged). I know the billets are alot of money, but the regular forged ones are reasonably priced. Oliver's have the most "profiled" big end, which is needed for cam/pan rail clearance.

Just go with 5.7 no need for the 6.0

A little info here. Jeff Green the guy who offers it is invited to the Pump Gas Drags, run mid 9s at 146mph in a 4400lbs car. His particular car has a Donovan aluminum block converted to LT1 but seems he has done the 4" in true LT1 blocks as well.

Eagle also offer's a profiled H-beam rod for the 4" stroke motors that eliminates the need for a reduced base circle cam. They have them in a 6.0" & 5.85" rod lengths. They are rated to handle 700 HP with the 8740 cromemoly rod bolts, 1100 HP with the ARP2000 rod bolt upgrade, & 1400 HP with the ARP L19 rod bolt upgrade. The Eagle part numbers for these rods are CRS 5850 BST & CRS 6000 BST.

Jason- You are the second person to suggest the Olivers... I'll check
on the Forged rods .... the Billets are over $1000

96Caprice- Thanks for the link... Jeff Green was using 6 inch Lunati Pro Mods
on a 4 inch stroke in an LT1.

I went to Manley's site last night and they offer the 1.88 journal rods
(Honda size) so popular in NASCAR in 6in and 5.8.... they also had
some under 500 gram steel rods rated for 450hp that I thought might
be a good choice in a high winding 283 or 302 mated to a 43 lb crank.

Actually... I was really quite surprised by the many Rod offerings that Manley had...quite a selection in steel.

Thanks also for the heads up on the Eagle part numbers/rods.

Anyone used the Compstars or Crowers??

I'm gonna vote for Oliver also...I have the billet 5.85" rods in my 383...It was built 12 years ago and I had no idea those things were $1000 now, but they have been beaten on since 1995, so I guess, in the long run, they are way worth it...

Here's a few pics of an LT1 clearanced for a 4" stroke with Compstar 6" standard journal size. As you can see, it doesn't require any extreme grinding.
