Default LT4 Cam VS. CC503

alright i live in CA so i want to stay smog legal, i heard both of these cams will pass smog.......i am on a really tight budget so i may not get the head work done right away (porting and Polishing) I saw a guy pulled around 300 RWHP and 300 RWTQ with the LT4 hotcam kit on a 94 z28. what would the cc503 cam put me up to with 1.6 RR and upgraded valvetrain with no port and polishing?

Check into LE2, cc305, cc306 cams. 3 very popular cams. I believe all of them are smog legal (not sure about cc306) and also fairly certain all outperform the LT4 cam.

I like my hotcam, even though i'm about to go bigger!!! ..... but is around 350hp.... and the cc503 is bigger than the hotcam, but don't expect to much out of either. Mine is at about max power with the hotcam.

I was actually looking at the LE1 package and that seems like a great deal for the price and power gain. I am on a budget and i am getting a rebuilt 4l60E that will handle more power also.

306, however the op said he needed it to be smog legal, which would be very hard with the 306.

I got tired of dealing with the Hotcam crap "will the springs cause valve float"? so I just ordered some 918s and a 503 can't wait

I've seen peolpe lay down 350+ to the tires with bolt ons and the 224/230.(M6 cars) I purchased one for my 355 but when i got my heads back and talked to Lloyd he said the 234/242 was a more fitting. I'm happy it's not another "can i put a GM847 in my Stock heads and bottom end car with 100+ on the clock. Good Luck

I've know most to upgrade from the Hotcam to a (503) 224/230. anyway, There is also a Lingenfilter 211/219 in a 114 that makes a GREAT smog cam. Look into those. Just dont go bigger than a 230/236 and plan on passing

I take it the 847 is even more cam than the 306??

That sucks about smog. CA smog just blows, one of the reasons I won't go back out there. Gas must be even worse than last year I imagine also, I was paying around $3.63 for a gallon of 91 when I bailed out of there last August.

I am putting down the numbers in my sig with the hotcam. Of course I have a built motor on high compression but when I was just full bolt ons and a hotcam kit I put down 335 to the rears. I don't have to worry about smog so I am going with the GM847 soon but the hotcam has been true to me for 5 years now. A very good daily driver cam and have had no problems with it. I would vote for the Hotcam.
