Default opti is bad

well friday my car just died on me and would only stay running for about 5 seconds unless you had the engine above 1500 rpms which i had to use both tthe break and gas to get to my mechanic. he called me today and said i had a bad opti. so ive read a lot about how shitty the opti's are on the lt1's and its seem like Dynaspark is the best one. well a lot of poeple like msd also.. i just had my distributor cap and plugs change 10,000 miles ago so when i get a new opti should i change them again. PLease let me kno which opti i should go with thanks

IMO its too expensive, its a good kit from what I have heard though, but the MSD opti just solves alot of the common Opti problems

all right well my MSD opti **** on me just like it did on a hundred other people..I will get a stock GM replacement. I spent 500 dollars on that ******* thing and now I have to replace it again. It really pisses me off.

I struggled over the winter with a few different stock Opti's and switched over to a MSD Pro Billet and it has been great ever since.

I know alot of people didnt read the instructions correctly and didnt install the O-ring correctly, me included, but I caught it before I turned the car on for a long time and reinstalled it correctly

Maybe thats why yours quit on you so quickly

well it was originally installed with my elec water pump, double roller etc, then I had to take it off again for the cam install. I don't think he installed it wrong when he did my hot cam. However, when we took it off to do the cam, we noticed the red dust on the inside, which was evidence of the rotor rubbing the cap. On camaroz28 a guy did a whole diagnosis, and he figured out this was the problem. The guy diagnosed it was the o ring, but he put it on himself and made sure the o ring was mint and it still F'd up. So I am going to send it back to msd and I will have it for sale when it gets fixed. Any takers?

edit..msd diagnosed that it was the wrong o ring installation
