Im thinking of what size cam to get with the stock valve train....even the 1.5rr
Im fine with a cam with these specs...
21X/21x and 500/500 is there any similar to this with the 1.5rr...ps needs not to pull past about 5800

Edelbrock's LT1 cam is 218/218 .525/.525 w/ a 1.5 ratio. You should probably at least get new valvesprings though, no matter what cam you get.

Unless you are running in a class that restricts valvetrain modifications, why would you want to limit yourself? After all the work and money i would upgrade that as well.

I agree with this guy, why are you restricting yourself so much unless you are running in a class that requires such valvetrain?

Default Hoping someone answers...

I have a 97 Z28, m6, and was hoping someone would answer the original question. Why? Because right now the front of my engine is apart for a new timing chain/gears, and since it's opened up, I was thinking this is the best time to add a cam if it gives a little more performance without going over the valve train/head. Why not work on the valve train at the same time? $$$$$$$$$$$$ and I want to at least drive my car until I get some more $$$$$$$$$ to do head work.

Like someone else said, the factory springs are not even enough for a hotcam, which is a very mild camshaft. Check out the for sale section on here, you can probably pick up a used cam/springs combo for less than the cost of a brand new camshaft. I would also recommend upgrading lifters for better oil control as well, because if you go cheap now, then it will only cost you more in the long run. The springs are a must, lifters are only a recommendation.

Okay, that's the answer I'm looking for. I did a little bit more reading and this is either a "do it all or don't do it at all" thing. I just hate paying for labor twice.

The stock rockers are not particularly consistent. I know guys who have run fairly aggressive cams with them and guys who have bottomed the slot and snapped studs with just .510 lift.

The stock spring are not good enough for 1.6 rockers on the stock cam much less anything else.

Start with springs and rockers do the cam another time.

That's the cc503 and it's a good cam. Here's a link to some others. For springs, search for 918 beehive springs. If you get those, you'll be able to get almost any LT1 cam.
