another overheating lt1
If your fan's not turning on with A/C switched on then its either with your fan motor or connections to the fan motor. make sure the wiring is ok and getting voltage to the fan, if you are then most likely fan motor bad.

# You can jumper two pins on the DLC that should cause the fans to come on. 1993-1994 cars with the 12 pin DLC can jumper pins A and B. On a 1993, that is the same way that you would retrieve trouble codes from the ecm. The 1994 won't give you any codes, but the fans will engage. 1995-1997 uses pins 5 and 6 on the 16 pin DLC to initiate what is called "field service enable mode". That will cause the fans to come on and operate most sensors for sanity checking. After placing the jumper on the correct pins, turn the key to ON (don't start). If the fans work after jumpering the DLC, your PCM is capable of operating the fans and all fan wiring/relays should be ok.

Check for voltage on the fan plugs with the AC on. If voltage is present, you more than likely have a bad fan motor. If no voltage is present then move to the fan relays. Check to see if there is voltage present at the relays. You may have a blown fuse or fusible link. Check to see if you have voltage from the PCM to pull the relays on. Most are switched ground. You possibly may have a bad relay.
Feel the radiator when it's good and warmed up, you might have to drop the fans to get to it, if any of it is cool to the touch you need to get it flushed or put in a new radiator. I got a new replacement for mine for $150
alright this is what you do lol to keep ur car from overheating now i mite get bashed for this.
1. check them fans , cause one of mine just went out had to get another motor or whateva that thing is called this is probably causing alot of problems as well.
2. check that radiator and check the hoses for air
3. get a fan switch
4. get a 160 thermo
5. And if ya want ya car not to even kno what 210 degress is get a be cool radiator with all the stuff i mentioned above.

Ive had the same exact problem with my car for a while. I did exactly the same thing as you. First i changed the fluid, then i threw in a 160* thermostat, then i just got a manual fan switch cause i was tired of turning the a/c on. The manual fan switch works to keep it cool, but it keeps it too cool even on the low setting. I'm putting a new opti in soon and I will probably throw a new water pump in while I'm at it. I"ll let you know the outcome.
surely sounds like your fans arent coming on. i ahd the same problem. i dont have a 160 degree thermo and my **** never hits the halfway mark. i did a bone head thing once, i left the fans unplugged when i test drove my car afteri did the waterpump, and it threw me off, but as soon as i lifted it back up, i saw the fan connectors just swingin' away! haha. i would definatly check them. i wouldnt so much go for thermostat, because you are getting flow if you turn the heater on and it keeps the temp down. the water pump may be going out, listen for horrible bearing noise or small drips or puddles coing from the weephole below the waterpump right above the optispark. somtimes you can reach down there and feel it. The trick the one dude said with the A/C ***** works good to test the fans. and before any if this.....do check and see if the system is bled correctly..alot of places i have seen arent educated enough about these cars to know how to properly bleed them. so make sure.
alot of how your car cools down is how well bled the system is, i have a stock radiator, with stock (but new) thermo and new hoses. and mine never sees 200 degrees. and i have a cam and headers....which doesnt help with the temp. so. but maybe im just lucky or something.

the car does fine when it is getting airflow, but i have to watch out when it sits. im not worried about the radiator as i had it bled twice, and it does get very hot when the motor gets up to temps. there is a high pitched wine coming from the engine bay, and i dont think it is the belt because i just got a new one. i havent gotten a chance to check out the fans yet. btw, the radiator is still 100% stock, i did not get a thermostat.
high pitched whine could be your waterpump bearing. mine made a horrble noise when it went out the second time. i dont know how much experiance you have, but if you dont have much, i would take it somewhere that knows your car, like the dealership. i know its expensive, but they know your car. and they use the right parts.
wow dude lol its still overheating did why didnt you get the thermostat and fan switch, Also from the info above a waterpump maybe needed.

thats exactly what it means. 4000 on the car, 2000 to fix the suspension/brakes, tuneup, 500 on exhaust, !EGR and !AIR deleted from the pcm, the list goes on.... as for now, its not being taken out much until i can pay off my credit cards.

Explain how a 160 vs a 180 thermostat will help an overheating car? They effect the opening of the thermostat at a given temp and if his car is running at 230? how is a thermostat that is functioning at 180 going to be worse than the same at 160?
Simply run a wire from your battery directly to your fan to see if it is working. LT1's have a great cooling system and is one of their selling points. Reverse cooling and direct drive pump. They do not run at 180 like an old SBC, they run at 190 to 200 with no problem.
Do not be so quick to change parts without diagnosing the real problem otherwise you will wind up with a bunch of new parts and the same problem.
