Default Car wont start :(

-Car died while in stop and go traffic
-let it cool, car starts up, but will die again 10 min later.

I thought it was the opti, so I bought a new AC delco unit and swapped it in. I made the mistake of not noting the position of the key on the spline when pulling off the old opti. I was told that there should be very little resistance when putting the new one in if you have it lined up right. I had a tap mine in to get it on (pretty gently, tho), which leads me to believe that I might not have it one right ...

After I got everyone buttoned up, the car will not start at all! I have fuel pressure, but no spark. I looked for voltage at the harness to the ICM from the PCM and am not getting anything there when I crank the motor. Any idea what this could be caused by?

I suspected incorrect opti install, but if that were the case, wouldnt it fire, but just at the wrong time? Defective opti?

I always did it this way and it never did me wrong. In my Chilton manual, it says to time the opti by putting the "slot" at the 9:00 position and #1 cylinder at TDC. Easiest way is take plug out and put your finger over the hole and turn the crank til you feel compression. After you feel compression, look for 9:00 with the "slot" or "keyway" on the opti pin. (Hint: stick the pin the gear while your turning it so you don't have to get right up on the seal to see it.)
