Default how much stall?

I have a 94 Z w/ auto and either a 3.08 or a 3.42. I just bought the 847 cam and all the other valvetrain components but now I'm uncertain on which stall to use and how much. Any ideas? This is a DD.

Well for starters you bought the wrong cam. That is FAR larger than you should have bought.

When my new tranny gets here in a couple months it's going to have a 3000 in it from performabuilt. The rest of my car is close to stock but I think it should be hella fun. Except for the 2.73 rear end.

3200 is a good all around stall. Also don't buy a cheap converter, or you will pay the price later ... especially anything from TCI.

How do you know what he should have bought? He never said what his plans for the car were or what he wanted. Plenty of people have run that cam in a DD.

and plenty of people make mistakes, only a relative few of us are willing to admit and learn from them though.

its not enough stall for the 847 IMO, but it works.

Im not getting into the whole 847 too big for a DD ****, my car was ok, but it could have been alot better with some heads. also it sucked on gas...

Well first off like I said this is my DD so I will not be taking it to the track so I really don't need a looser stall. My intentions are as funds allow add a nice set of heads and along with what I have now I think that will be good enough for me. I might have made a wrong decision on cam choice and if so I will remove it and install a smaller one but now this is the choice I made. Thanks for all you opinions everybody.

Could you give me a example how bad the fuel usage was, like how many miles could you get out of a tank?

Thanks

I have a Vigi 3200 in my TA, drives perfect, no change in gas mileage from the stock converter. It doesn't take any more gas really to get moving and on the freeway its fine, only time the gas mileage drops is when you flash and blow the street tires in to a blaze white smoke glory

I think many can agree that TCI converters have had QC issues.

The 847 would probably be better suited to something like a 3200. With lockup and everything, I would think it would be fine but only you know what you can tolerate.

Thats nice. I just bought a TCI 3600 from a board member. So whats the lifespan behind 350RWHP and a 100 shot?

Sorry to hijack the thread.

There have been a lot of quality issues with the TCI stalls. I am not saying it will break, or yours will not hold together, there are a lot of people with TCI converters that love them. There are also a lot more TCI horror stories. Personally, I am a fan of Vigi, Yank, and Fuddle ... and even as of late Fuddle has been having some QC issues as well.

As far as the cam goes, you will see a drop in gas mileage ... how much will depend on your tune.
