Default cam question

1996 formula m6. is it worth it to just do a cam swap? do the stock heads and intake flow enough for a mild aftermarket cam?

Sure it is, if you have all the supporting mods including a tune.

YA most people who do a cam swap usually hit around 350RWHP with supporting mods and a tune. You will have to change your valve springs though.

Along with countless other things to handle all that extra power. Even then, you run a good risk of messing something up. In my case, it's been bearings, TWICE.

well, leave it stock unless you can afford to do the job correctly, and afford to fix the things that will break, and afford to have transportation that will be less dependable.

All true, but he said mild cam.

If you add something like a hotcam package or simular cam and keep the RPMs reasonable (6200-6300 RPMs) he chould make in the 320 HP range ( headers, TB , tune ) and not kill the motor.

From what I've seen it's when people start installing big cams that build far greater cylinder pressure and/or spinning stock bottom ends up above 6600 that you start seeing problems with bearing.

Also some advice do not put a 9" in or any other big rear end in untill you need it because you will actually loose RWHP and mph. I would do something like a cc503 its a little bigger then the hot cam and you can still use unported heads. try a search on both you will find plenty of info.

id rather lose a few hp then break my rear end. itas a street car so......ill look into that cam. how much does a cam swap usually run labor wise at a shop including installing new valve springs
