Default shift kit necessary?

i've never experienced a shift kit, but i believe my tune gives me the equivalent to one. my shifts are really crisp and firm. does this come with every tune? i've thought about getting a shift kit before my next tune, but i was wondering if it's even necessary if the shifts are gonna be tuned in the first place. thanks.

I use the Trans Go shift kit. I like mine but I also have a 3000 stall converter. If you put one in with a stock stall you are going to want to back your pressures back down to near stock, or it will more than likely shift to hard.

Messing with line pressure is not something you wanna do, its not recommended to get your shift points messed with through a tune. A shift kit does a much better more reliable job and will improve the life of your trans. You can put in a corvette servo for a nice 1-2 snap also.

If Im not mistaken pretty much all LT1 transmissions came with the vette servo stock. B-cars did, F-cars prolly do too.

I would have to disagree. MANY people have done this and if you don't increase the pressures by an excessive amount it can be very safe to do so. Some of the stock settings (especially on the 2-3 and 3-4) are rather conservative.

Plus nearly all tuners offer to do this, if it led to widespead cases of trans failure I don't think you would be seeing this.

You should be sure of what you are doing (i.e. not just changing things without knowing what they do) but if you are knowledgeable about it you should be ok. I did this on both my previous cars and had no trans issues.

I would still agree though that a shift kit is probably a more reliable way to accomplish this.

If you could prove that, that would be awesome and save me a few bucks!

I can't prove if on an F-car as I dont own one, but all LT1 B-cars had the vette servo stock in them. Don't see why a F-car wouldn't have one either.
