I really don't know what I'm talking about, but my guess is you're pushing the limits at 8. I CAN tell you a 91 Cummins from a Dodge can handle 60psi That's right from a Cummins' tech guy.

I'm curious as to what the max is too, just for knowledge sake.

Stock internals are good for about 4.5-8 PSI.

I have heard horror stories at 4.5 PSI, and cars that run forever on 8 PSI.
I think its more to do with the tuning, brand, and installation.

Talked to Razor a bit on AIM, and he has probably the best stock setup. All stock motor except the LTs, ProCharger, and tune and he still makes that power and gets 17mpg city.

SBC's are diehard motors, and the LT1 just takes things up a notch.

The factory shortblock on the LT1s are historically known to hold on until around 450-ish to the wheels. That's not something to swear by, there are a lot of variables that go along with it including tuning, mileage, year (the newer LT1s had slightly better rods), previous abuse, maint., etc.

So basically if you get close to 450ish.. I'd start looking into the cost of a new shortblock.

I wouldn't say much at all. The LT1 has a lot more compression than a standard sbc. HP wise I'd say about 450 crank hp or so, but you never know. I think the bearings and the rod bolts are the weak links power-wise. When you start adding boost, it's a whole different story.
