Default Comp Cams Tech Advice...

I called comp cams and told them that I wanted a cam for an 1993 A4 DD, not looking to put a converter in, want it to run with A/C etc. I told him I plan to get a tune, port heads and intake, CAI and throttle body. Already got exhaust, no cats, and 24# injectors. He recommended me with the cc500, the smallest cam. He also said that the cc304 (the second smallest cam) would also work but is close to needing a converter. The only cams shown needing a converter on the Comp Cams website were the 503 and 306. If I take this advice, AM I GONNA SEE ANY SIGNIFICANT POWER GAINS?

question why not converter or gears. and converter and some 3.73-or 3.42s will show a lot better gain in speed then a really small cam. you could go with a 24-2800 not affect dd ability and run the cc503. porting heads and intake and not changing converter and gears to run a cam to use the extra airflow efficiently from the heads would be a waste really. But if you insist on no converter look at the lt4 hotcam.

Well gears are probably in the future but not at the same time as the cam. (I don't have enough money.) As to the converter, if I were to get a 2400 converter and kept my 2:73s, my tranny would not lock up until around 80-85 mph and get too hot because of slippage, right? Unless I ran it in drive to raise RPMs to lock up the tranny

No, the car's shift points will be the same with the converter and gears. My converter locks up at 45 mph just like it did with stock converter and 2.73s.

Get converter and gears before the cam or at the same time.
