Default 383 question

Hey all. I recently purchased a El Camino with a 1995 Corvette LT1 in it. I planned on rebuilding the motor as soon as I blew something and after this past weekend of donuts and burnouts I managed to blow a head gasket.

I wanted to know what (realistically) I can look forward to in terms of horsepower. If money was not an issue, what am I looking at (Fly wheel HP) out of a 383 LT1? I've been hearing 500 - 550 but I was hoping to make it to 600, any suggestions or comments? Thanks - Mike

Way too open ended of a question there. With a 383, there are so many horsepower variables that YOU as the owner need to pick out that it's impossible to tell. You could end up with anywhere from 350 to 500 HP on the average with a N/A 383. All depends on what you put into it and how well everything works together.

Default yes...

I understand that, I was just saying with a blank check what am I limited to? There has got to be a limit on that block as to the most HP I can get from it running motor only.

blank check, convert to SB2.2 heads and a single plane EFI converted intake and make 600+ easy
