Default Harmonic Balancer Crank Nub

Are there any tricks to pulling this off? We've broken 2 harmonic balancer pullers trying to get this off. We've taken LS2 balancers and SB1 balancers off no problem but so far it's

I rented a steering wheel puller from Shucks. That plus a rubber mallet and it pops right off.

I've used the puller kit from O Reilys before. It works... and would suck if you broke it.

There's an easy method to this that always works for me.

Get a regular 3 jaw puller at any auto parts store (like $15-$20) ex. http://www.cumminstools.com/browse.cfm/4,382.html

Then get a long bolt (I think a 5/16, but the widest you can fit in the center hole of the hub) and drill a small recess in the head of it so the puller tip can press against it without slipping. Then insert the bolt into the hole with the puller tip on the head and attach the puller arms to the 3 extensions of the hub and turn it.

However you do it, the key is that the primary force has to be pushing in the hole against the crank and not pulling out toward you on the hub.

I went through the same thing yesterday. I could NOT get the hub off, then I realized that the bolt needs to be in. I was pulling on the hub at first, with the pushing part of the puller pushing on the hub also.

Yep. Exact same thing we were doing. Explained why we broke 2 pulley pullers before we figured it out.
