having pushrod issues
Well i pulled everything apart today to change my lifters cause i have a ticking issue. So i as i am pulling everything apart im notice all my pushrods have wear marks on them by the guideplates, and one is pretty decent to where you can feel it and has little dimples on it. Im using gmpp guideplates like everyone else has so why are mine wearing my pushrods out? The pushrods i have are the $40 comp cams ones. I need to buy shorter ones so im gonna get the magnum ones but i dont wanna spend all this money on new ones if my guideplates are gonna screw them up. Anything i can check for?? Anyone give any tips on what to do or check for? I have beehive springs, NSA promag rockers on 7/16 studs, gmpp guideplates and now comp cams magnum pushrods. thanks
Are the 40 dollar comp cams pushrods hardened? I have the CC hi-techs and they wear the guideplates while staying nice and new looking, however, I have a little bit of finish wear (you can see where the guide plates touch the pushrod, however, I can't feel any wear).
Hardened pushrods should wear the softer GM guideplates and not the other way around.
You should not have much wear on either the guide plates or the pushrods if the valve train geometry is correct. Did you align the guideplates during your install (there's a little room for alignment when installing the rocker studs), are your pushrods the proper length?

hey mike, the pushrods i nthere were the stock 7.2s and i had to get 7.150's but i dont think that .050 would kill a pushrod. So i got the magnum pushrods. I had these in there... http://store.summitracing.com/partde...6&autoview=sku .. and it says for use with guideplates but there still steel vs. chromoly that i got now. So now with the shorter PR i got all the right geometry so i should be perfect, key word perfect.
well i got everything back toghter with all new stuff. i.e. lifters and new PRs. Still making a ticking noise. Its comming from the right side #2 exhaust rocker. Its making a knocking noise. And i noticed that theres no oil comming out of that PRs to lube the rocker. So i poured a cap full of oil on but it still knocks. WTF is goin on here. Need to get this **** fixed so i can finally make some test passes but im not with a rocker that knocks.
