Are you going to run the exchange springs?

I'm really not sure yet. I might just get them and then sale them.

That is where I got my 1518s. It was practically a steal.

I would suspect installer error before a mechanical failure.

With the massive amounts of people who are seeing this problem, I would say it's the other way around. Certain cases may be installer error, but I don't see it adding up to the huge numbers of people with broken springs. The way Comp is dancing around the issue like they are, something is wrong.

With the lifts people are running the spring need to be able to fully move/extend, its binding.

I assumed the seats were machined, then you need valve caps, to extend the valve. I had comp cam 987 springs prior to the 918's and they machine for the larger diameter springs.

The other issue I see is people running radical cam lobes and not changing springs every season or so.

I agree with all of this. My install height was checked. checked checked again and checked another time. I spoke with Lloyd over the phone and he gave me a safe area. When my install heights were around 1.77-1.78, I was pleased and have been succesful thus far. I hope my streak of luck or a good batch of springs (whichever) continues.

Usually the actual coil bind number and the advertised coil bind spec is quite a bit different.

The true solid height on a 918 (atleast when we made them) is ~1.065". THe advertised solid height is 1.140. Which is why a lot of people install .550-.600 lift cams at 1.750" on the 918s (now PAC-1218).

We are super conservative on the coil bind number so people don't try an run a .700 lift cam on a 918 (PAC-1218). While the spring can handle that much deflection. It can't reliably handle that stress range.

to the guys not having issues.
can you post your batch numbers , just for the record.
if the batch numbers match some of the batch numbers, that are thouht of as "bad".
it would lead to another issue. now if they don't match the guys that haven't had issues yet can see your "good" batch numbers and have that fuzzy little feeling again in their belly.

YeahDoug
thanks for making a great product, glad my head guys gets thier springs straight from you.
