I noticed lately (past week or so) my lt1 makes a weird noise usually most noticeable during start up. It's a whine almost sounds like a loud fuel pump under my hood. I know lt1s are noisy but this is worse than it normally is. It doesnt change pitch or anything when the rpms change its just a high whiney noise. I looked under the hood and I just cant specify where it is coming from. any ideas?

 

How old is your serpentine belt? I might try changing it.

 

If it were belt wouldn't it change pitch as it turned faster? I had a truck once that needed an idler pulley (bearing bad) and when you sped it up, the pitch changed noticeably.

 

yeah I was thinking it isn't belt related since the pitch is constant

 

maybe the air pump for the first few minutes?

 

mine ws.6 did that too. if you turn the key on without turning the car over then turn it back off does it make another noise?

 

Nope the AIR pump was removed

 

nope only when the car is running. I'm gonna take the belt off and see if it stops making the sound
