If the guy did the common lt4 conversion consisting of cam, rockers, springs available from summit for about 560, then it is the lt4 hotcam. The hotcam is different then the lt4 cam that came in the 96 vette lt4. The standard lt4 (which is rated at 330) is a 203/210 with .476/.479 lift at 117 degrees. The hotcam kit comes with a 218/228 with .525/.525 lift at 112 degrees. So the latter kit with a tune and supporting bolt-ons could make 350 plus at the wheels, where as the stock lt4 vette or lt4 SS were only rated at 330. As far as the car, I would keep my eyes open because the owner sounded a little shady. Sorry for the long post, just trying to clear up some confusion.

Hey, thanks for the advice, guys. If I can't buy an LS1 at a good price, I certainly don't mind buying a newer clean LT1.

Maybe the reason for the off color fender is that the wheel flared the factory one out and runied it from a pot hole? damn those are way too big for a Camaro, specially if it's supposed to be a street car, I've always went more tire, not rim
