Default temp gauge going crazy! HELP

I was driving my car down the freeway today and all of a sudden the temp gauge went from 190* to 260* in about 5-6 seconds, so I stopped on the side of the road and the gauge went right back down to normal. As soon as I started moving again it started climbing. It did this 3 or 4 times so I let it cool off and drove it to my girlfriend's grandparents and the entire drive there (4 miles) it read 170*.

I have no idea what is going on... I just installed a new 160* thermostat and coolant sensor (the one in the block) a week ago, as well as had the fans re-programed. Also it has an e-water pump and manual fan switch.

Can anyone PLEASE help me out here, I need my car

Bleed it again and make sure there is enough coolant.

I am having a similar problem, only diff. is that my temp stays at zero and only bumps up every now and then. My water pump is new, thermostat, and both temp sensors.

Mine does this as well. It started when I replaced the coolant sensor that already went bad.

It will stay at zero if the temp sensor isn't getting any power, or it will go to full hot when it's grounded out. You might want to check your connection on the sensor.

I tried to bleed it but when I opened the bleeder screws no air bubbles came out. It hasn't acted up since so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
