Default LT1 still overheating at idle

thought i fixed the problem by putting the 180 thermostat back in, but the temp goes from 225-235 to around 245-250 at stoplights or idle. i opened the bleeders but a stream shot out. I have about a 80/20 mix of water/antifreeze in there, but that shouldnt be the problem right? I ordered a 160 stat that should be in tomorrow, but i feel somethings not right. Any ideas. It seems fine when i'm driving it, just at idle it starts overheating. I can hear the fans come on around 230ish.

take it to speed and have them program the fans to come on sooner. also ask them what else can be done with a basic GM tune for an OBD1 auto LT1. i know they did a few tricks on my M6 LS1

Are the fans even coming on?? Does it only get hot at idle or is it also getting hot driving down the road?? If it is only getting hot at idle I would venture to say you have a problem with the fan. If it overheats when you are moving I would say probably a water flow problem or air in the cooling system.

The temps you've posted are about right for an f-body with factory fan settings. These cars were designed to run way too hot as an attempt to keep emissions low.

Z28_Dad has the right idea, you need to get the fans re-programmed to turn on sooner (or install a manual switch). Also check that BOTH fans are running when you hear them kick in.
