crank hub install- where the hell do you get threaded rod? i cannot for the life of me find 7/16"-20 (fine thread) threaded rod. only course thread. i am getting really aggravated and im tempted to just smack this thing on with a hammer. ive been searching every place around me for 2 weeks and nobody can even get it. even the huge fastener warehouse. they say it doesnt exist. where do you guys get it? 
Matco tools. They sell a 20piece balancer install kit for almost any car. It was a must buy, for the ls1 and lt1's. It was only 150.00.
Check the tool section, there is a guy selling a ls1 hub install tool for around 15.00.. Maybe he can help you for your lt.

Are you trying to sink the balancer with the bolt?
I would not recomend doing that unless you get upwards of 5+ threads on the bolt or you will strip your crank.
You should try and muscle it on first then sink it to elimate that problem.

I hammered mine back on. This thread is helpful though, it sorta explains why I couldn't figure out how I was supposed to use the puller to reinstall it.
Can someone walk through on how you are supposed to reinstall it? Might be helpful for future reference.

Fastenal would sell any kind of fastener you want. Yes there is one in your area just look it up on their site.
PS I just tapped the thing on with a hammer or something if I recall.

I have done this job, this is the way it has to be. As for the tool. I dont know about stock GM cranks. I had a callies dragon slayer which didnt allow the tool to go deep enough to get a good amount of the threads and as stated before if you dont have enough, you can be fucked.

im just trying to put the hub onto the crank by using a peice of threaded rod, some washers, and a nut. i have it on partially but not enough to get a good bite on the stock bolt, which is why i need some threaded rod.

Thanks, I think the picture answered my question. I understand how it installs it. I'll have to pick one up someday, can never have enough tools!
You should have seen me looking at the puller I have, it claimed it could reinstall, there is no way what I have now can reinstall, it did a good job at pulling it off after I ground down a rod to fit down the bolt hole, the puller I got didn't even have anything useful for that part of the operation.

Be very careful of using standard threaded rod. It is usually low grade & can snap off in the crank when pulling the balancer on. Stick with the Fastenall or similar supplier that can get you a piece of grade 8 stock. Lowes has grade 2 & it will cause you untold grief if it breaks.
I use the boiling water trick and that gets you a good solid start. Then I have been using a longer bolt that I can stack varing amounts of washers on always being careful to keep a fair amount of thread engagement. Threaded rod would be MUCH nicer and I might just have to pick some up, Fastenal is near work.
