I do not recommend power washing them. You should wash them in dishwashing liquid, and rinse them from the inside out. After they dry, use K&N oil on them. It is available at almost all motorcycle shops, get the spray if you can find it. It should be lightly oiled, not heavily. Not sure on the price, probably less than ten bucks. Do not use compressed air, do not blow dry. Just let nature take its course.

The kits come with a cleaner that works really well, but yes wash them from the inside out (or back to front on flat ones). One thing I wish I knew, was how MUCH oil to spray on :\ I always wondered if I was putting on too much or too little.

Kits run $9-15, depending on where you buy it from. Local parts stores usually keep them in stock. At least Check/Shucks/Kragen does.

If you powerwashed it the filter is ruined so I would just buy a new one.

I wouldnt say its ruined, but its far from where you want it to be.

They are oiled very well from K&N, you want to just run the hose at normal pressure over it to clean it.

Once you have the kit, it has instructions on how to correctly apply the oil.

Tony.

Personally i used the kit with the solvent, wrinsed it with a water hose with my thumb over the end creating a little but of pressure, then i shook off as much water as possible and let it set out for a hour or two, after that i believe the instructions said to iol it to where there are no white spots, it did not say to soak it. If you pressure washed it check to see if the cotton is forced threw the mesh, if so just replace the whole thing as said above.

It really didnt turn out too bad, I did succeed with removing a lot of dirt so after it dries tonight Im gonna hit it with a moderate amount of the K&N filter oil stuff I found in my endless cabinet of supplies

if you powerwashed it, chunks of element could come off and screw up your maf sensor or if its descreened, go in your engine.

There are a couple ways of cleaing an air filter.

If you powerwashed it you might have destroyed the layers and pushed the material together.
Which you want to do is:
-Let the filter soak in gasoline for a minute in a small bucket.
or
-Soak the filter with the K&N Cleaner, hang it.... let it drip.

You can buy the K&N Recharger Kit, which is basically 2 bottles for $20, a cleaner and an oil agent. If you have an air compressor with a spray nozzle, this drastically speeds up the process and also helps clean the filter much better.

After the filter is clean and dry, lightly spray about 2 coats of the K&N Oil on the filter and youre good to go.

K&N good.
High pressure wash bad
Gasoline bad
Soaking bad
Light spray good
I have used K&Ns since the mid 70s, always with good success. But they are like a fine woman; you must find out their likes and dislikes and treat them like queens. And they will always give you their best.

Anyone else think the intake is a pain? It takes like two people to install. With re-installing it rather than having a person hold it from the top while the other tries to work within that little holr beneath the car to tighten the filter..I just pre-attached it and cut a larger hole the accomodate the extra space. Way easier.

if you dont have any k&n oil you can go to advance auto and get a re-oiling kit for the APC filters...its the same setup and works just as well if you run out of oil or like me just cant find ther damn stuff
