Default Got a MAJOR problem!:(

Hey guy well i am doing a LT install and I was about to remove the oil cap filler and tube and then take off the PS valve cover, and I found rust on the inside of my oil cap, and on the threads of the oil filler tube it looks like kind of mushy and chunky? WTF. I haven't started my car up for about 6 1/2 weeks due to getting everything ready and having my parts being back ordered a TON!! Someone said that it could be a cracked head, cracked block and so fourth? But could the gaskets being not warmed up for a while cause this? I am really really upset b/c I just show my car and I really don't beat on it so what could the problem be? I don't think that the rust was there when I changed all my fluids in APRIL of 07. Please don't tell me that I have a fu#%ed up car! Car info it is a 1997 camaro z28 with 73,788 on the clock. I also drained the coolant from the block b/c I broke the temp sensor that goes into the driver side head, if that help at all! Any input would be greatly apprecaited! Devin

It's probably just moisture that had been built up from sitting so long.

I don't think it is a problem. When you get the headers changed, start the car and let it come up to normal temperature then change the oil.

Well if you are referring to the oil fill spout, that threads into the valve cover... just a FYI that if you have the OEM GM one it is plastic and cannot rust. Probably just oil residue. Take some pics so we can see what exactly you are referring to.

sounds to me like the colloidal cream that forms when coolant (or water) gets into the oil. I'd change it and run it and see if you are missing any coolant. Good luck though!

Should I change my oil to while I am at it, I have saved most of the coolant and the coolant looks great it is Dexcool orange, I was thinking about changing the coolant and the oil when I get my car done.

When I took my oil out the last time the oil was in great shape and there were no foresaw problems at that point in time. My main ? is that none of the gaskets have been warmed up for quite some time now, could this have an effect, I mean they are rubber so maybe something is just leaky cause the gaskets are dried out. Also I used to have some oil leak a little bit about every 4 wks or so and now that leak has stopped is that an issue too? Everything on my car look in great shape.
