oil leak??

Default oil leak??

I just changed the cam in my Z about three hundered miles ago and now I have a oil leak. It's coming behind the opti but I replaced all those seals so what gives?? I was very sure that I inserted it in the bore of the timing cover nice and straight. At first I thought it was the front of the pan gasket but after resealing it and checking it later I saw the oil line coming down from the opti???? How can I stop it? I can't deal with oil leaks!

It's possible that it is the water pump drive seal. You have to make sure you have a sleeve of sorts that goes over the shaft to keep the lips of the seal from turning the wrong way.

Do you mean I could have pushed in the seal? Instead of a outer I now have a inner??

In a way. The one you actually gotta watch is the inside lip. I usually go ahead and put the sleeve in the seal and then put it over the shaft, then tap it in place.

When I did mine I used at tapered highlighter (under advise from another site) cut it where it was just larger than the WP shaft - then slipped it over the shaft, a little oil on the highlighter then slide the seal on up.

My first one - the outside lip got damaged - I think the socket I was seating it with slipped and chewed it up. Of course I only found this out AFTER the job was done.
