I have a 96 Z i just bought and it has 70K miles. It has a bad hesitation below 3K RPM'S. It does fine if you floor it off the line and stay on it through the gears. It is the worst below 3K, it still seems a little hesitant above 3K, but the car actually moves.

There are a vast number of things that it could be. I had this problem and it turns out to be my maf. I would take every sensor out one at a time and clean them. Also if you could get the car scanned to see what is going on it would be alot easir to find the problem. What ever you do. Dont just start repacing parts. I played that game last year and after 300 dollars for sensors and 160 for plugs and wires , the car still had its hesitation.

my friends car does the same thing (94Z LT1 A4 96K miles), the car will hesitate under WOT and partial throttle, but only sometimes. His SES will come on sometimes, but then goes away. He recently failed emissions due to the car running rich. Recently the car got MSD wires and plugs, and the problem started sometime after. Is this the same problem or something else?

Yank the MSD ignition off and see if that takes care of the problem, they are known to cause problems in some instances...quite possibly a bad 02 sensor as well.

yeah if hes running rich it might be dumping too much fuel with no rpms to take it I agree with gangly on a possible o2 sensor prob. Those should be replaced anyway on a higher mileage car
