Default Need help BAD

ok so here it goes, i have an lt-1 trans am 96. my car started to randomly hesitate and backfire and run like ****. so i wanted to put a better motor in it anyway so, i put a rebuilt 355 lt-1 in it (completely different motor) with lt-4 hotcam, i replaced opti, new wires, new plugs, new gaskets. so i get it done and fire it up AND STILL RUNS LIKE CRAP... wtf is the problem. i got my buddy to tune it and it was like the computer wouldnt take the tune. he got it perfect then it ran rich and the plugs screwed up. so it runs fine when you replace the plugs then it runs so rich that the plugs go bad. i dont know what to do i am running out of money to dump in this thing and i just want my car back does ANYBODY know whats up with my car. i would GREATLY appricate it. i am going to try to take my buddys computer out of his 97 t/a and put it in mine to see if its even the problem. please help

O2 Sensors and/or fuel filter and/or coil and/or ICM(SCM).

check the MAF, if its bad that would cause some of those symptoms as well, could be a bad PCM as well

Rear O2 won't cause that.

Forgot about the MAF. Unplug it, see if the car runs fine. It'll fall back on it's Speed Density (MAP) tables, which is a quick and easy way to tell if a MAF is bad. Also, don't bother descreening it. Doesn't help any, and if somehow something from the filter got through and collided with the MAF sensor's sensitive parts, it'd toast it out.

Yeah rear O2's have no bearing on engine performance. Do you have an engine light on?

Well you need to know what other DTC's are present. You can have all the DTC's set and the engine light is on. You don't know what's going on just because the light is on. You need to hook it up to a scanner to get the DTC's and watch engine parameters in real time.

You haven't answered us with what happens when you unplug the MAF (Mass Air Flow). It's mid air intake with a big flat plug, can't miss it lol.

If no shop an figure it out, then the people working there are idiots. The should be hooking up a scanner to see what current codes are and what past ones are.

he has already put a different MAF sensor on it. and it ran the same. we have put it on the dyno and used hp tuners and its like the computer wont take it.
a walkthourgh of what we did
changed the plugs

dynoed it

tunned it till it was perfect

then dynoed it again and we were crusing at like 55 then it just started to stubble and run like crap.

i dont know i think its hopeless. cause now i have no compression to cyl. 4. and when you pull the plug out it looks a little worst than the rest.

It was prob the front o2's the whole time. Sounds like what happened to me. Try replaceing them and see what happens. I'd put money on it since everything else seems fine from what you say.

Do the plugs. Just make sure they're the right heat range and gapped correctly. One guy on here said that .040 made his car run like ***, but .035 was perfect.

Happy to hear it's fixed. Front o2's are a problem on a lot of people's cars. Mine did the same thing along with a few of my friends cars.

So how did you conclude the PCM was bad?
