Default LT1 Bottom End

If a motor needs a new bottom end, whats all does that include?

Bottom end is the rotating assembly. Which considered all but the cam, unless people include that now-a-days (I might only be 24, but I was brought up the old school way).

Bearings include Main and Rod. Pistons include new rings and pins, as well as generally a bore or at minimum a hone job. But when you get pistons, it's either stock (hone job I believe is all that's done), .030 over, .040 over, and bigger. When it's .010+ it requires a boring job. (Nore: Boring, not dull or unexciting lol But increasing cylinder size (Sorry to dumb it down that much))

EDIT: You have a 3.8L I see. I would price out the whole job of having it done. And then price out having a used LT1 + Tranny + Wiring harness + ECM job done. I have a feeling the LT1 job will only be slightly more, unless you do the transplant yourself, then probably close to the same.

no i am thinking about buiying a 93 z-28 with a lt1 in it. the bottom end is shot. just wandering. i think the guy is asking to much. $1000 for a torn up old 93 that needs paint, head liner, brakes and motor. you think that is to much?

You could part that out for more than $1000 and keep the engine, tranny, and wiring to transplant into your 3.8. Also would cost less on insurance as it is insured as a 3.8

youre better off just buying a close to stock lt1 motor (that runs) or an already built motor (new from a reputable builder) and running it from there.. these projects can turn into a monster when you dont know what youre doing..

yea well. my 3.8 runs good and i have always wanted a 3.8 car, lt1, and ls1 and this would be a great addition. just don't know what i am up against because the guy says only it needs a motor but with 215,000 miles it could alot more than what i know if you know what i mean.

Short block will run between 2000 to 5000, plus about 1500 install. Includes block, rotating assembly, no pan, no heads, no intake, no accessories.

The 1000 car sounds like a bad idea. I know what I'm doing, but I wouldn't start that project without a shop, already having a motor, and somone willing to paint it professionally for free.

The engine isn't THAT big a deal, if you can find a decent used complete, but the paint and body is. Headliner is trivial, just a pain to do.

A LT1 car in virtually new condition can be had for far less than you'd put in that one; maybe 7500 to 10k for a REALLY cherry one with some mods and low miles.

Fixing the 1000 car to excellent condition could easily cost you twice that.
