Default Will an OBD1 Hypertech work with an OBD2 cable so long as the right cable was used?

No, this is not mine nor was it ever. A friend of mine had a Hypertech Power Programmer he picked up for $25 for some gear changes and to move the top speed limit on his car. We've since tuned his car and he ask me to sell it on Ebay for him since I had an account. Sounds good. So I sell it, brings $114.50 and I ship it out. The guy that buys it sends me an e-mail tonight and says he's got an OBD2 car and didn't realize it (doh). I really don't wanna give him a refund and take the damn thing back as the 2nd chance offers might fall through. I was gonna recommend he pick up an OBD2 cable with a 9 pin serial end and use it on his car that way. I started thinking it still might not communicate because with LT1 Edit and Tunercats you have to have different versions between OBD1 and OBD2. I know the programming is the same for the F and Y bodies for 94-97 so that's not the problem. Anyone know for sure if he can just pop the OBD2 cable on there?

But the PN specifies 95 Camaro/Firebird and 94-95 Corvette so I wouldn't necessarily say it's year specific. Besides, the programmer was used on a 1994 Camaro so not really year specific at all.

He does not have an OBDII car; he has an OBDI car with an OBDII connector.
There is a way to hook it up, I saw an Admin guy post about it. From what I recall, he mentioned using paperclips. Seriously.
But, since I don't have one, I didn't really track it.

Well I'm not sure if that's his deal or not. He might have the OBD1 car with the OBD2 connector or it's a 1996-1997. I was just thinking he might get the OBD2 cable and work. I just wanna get out with as little intervention as possible.

if he has a 95 all you need is the connector. if he has a 96-97 he is out of luck. 93 also wont work because they dont have a flash PCM

Correct. 96-97 is a separate HPP, and is true OBDII. Dammit. (I hate being OBDII, it is ignored by HPTuners and by EFILive.)

Yeah I knew the 93 wouldn't but thought the 96-97 might with the correct connector. I have confirmed he has the 95 with the hybrid OBD2 connector. He said he got a cable for it and still wouldn't work. I think maybe he wasn't doing the proper sequence of turning the key on for 10 seconds and then turning on the programmer.
