97 Opti/waterpump/timing belt help

Unhappy 97 Opti/waterpump/timing belt help

Alright well heres the deal i just recentley replaced some leaking injectors and the car ran beautifully. couple of hours later i notice there is a leak of coolant well the water was seeping through the weep hole. so well i need to replace the water pump. check!! next was once it leaked it began to miss bad so now i thinks its the opti. i need some advice here and knowlege if its miss firing and the opti is bad do i have to replace the whole distributer or just the cap and rotor havanet had a chance to take it off yet only have the water pump off and the gear was rounded off do you also think the splines inside the timing cover are bad or what??? the car has 156000 miles should i replace the timeing chain?? need help here cuz well im without a car right now and it sucks

well u corrected yourself and said chain was gonna say what timing belt lol

I replaced just the cap and rotor on mine, and carefully cleaned out the distributor body. That was about 25-30,000 miles ago, and it runs well.

With that many miles on it, I would think that a timing chain would be a very good idea. I did mine at the same time as I did the cap and rotor, just for the hell of it. Since I store the car for the winter, it gives me something to do on those cold, snow driven weekends...

alright well ill check it out need to take it out today hopefully i can just replace the cap and rotor but on the timing chain do you recomend the whole kit or just a chain

any one know where i can find the splined spacer between the water pump and the timing cover it was a little messed up

I would suggest the dealer, as this is probably one of those "obscure" parts that the aftermarket won't reproduce. As far as the timing set goes, I'd replace the whole deal, since the gears will wear a little, just as the chain will strech a little.
