383 Cost?
#5
The only thing I will need supporting wise, would be the Throttle body and injectors. I calculated it up with a forged kit and Scat I beam Rods/ decent summit internal and external balenced crank, etc.... How well would this engine hold up to a 200 shot or maybe more?

i am buying a short block that is all forged with splayed mains, it will cost me alittle more then if I just got the kit but I think it is well worth the extra money for it to hold up and not have to worry about the shady machine shops around me.

I have a good guy to go to. I worked at a local autoparts store for three years and he did all of our work and does a great job, Always has happy customers. He cuts me good deals to since I sent so much buisness his way.

Yeah I agree you can build a 383 for around $5,000.00, with forged internals as well. I'm building a fully forged 383 bottom end and when it's all done I'll have $3,300 in the short block. It will have an Eagle 4340 forged crank, Splayed Main Caps (ARP Rod/Main bolts) , Align bored, Balanced, All machine work, and all new freeze plugs, cam bearings, and the block checked for cracks or any damage. Also it will have an Eagle Forged H-Beam 6 inch rods, Forged Speed Pro Pistons that have 10.76:1 compression with 64cc heads (LT1 heads are 54cc) plus my block has been decked /milled and heads are also getting some taken off as well. So should be close to 12:1 compression. And going with a LE2 Package for the top end. I was thinking of a LE3 but still want it to be as streetable as possible. I'm using a built 4l60E and a 3600-3800 stall. And stock 10 bolt w/3.42 gears for now till next year then I'll do the 12 bolt. Lloyd Elliot claims to cut a mid to low 11 second 1/4 mile et with this setup. With a good 60' and a good suspension could be better. Good Luck with your build.

I’m just starting on my 383 project:
-Scat forged rotating assembly with Mahle coated pistons and file-to-fit rings and SFI flexplate
-Callies forged splayed center main caps
-ARP main studs
-All new bearings
From my existing motor:
-Timing chain
-BB oil pump
-Stefs custom oil pan
-Fludampr
-Lifters, pushrods, rockers
-ARP head studs
-Assembled, fully blueprinted
$4,500.00
Additions:
-Re-build my AI heads, check springs, etc.
-Drill heads for standard SBC intake
-Single plane manifold
-Port & port match single plane intake
-Assembled, fully blueprinted
-Dyno
$1,900.00 more
Custom cam from AI, $200.00
Total: $6,600.00
Goal: 550 HP on the dyno, 450 RWHP

Ya I just found a 383 kit through Jegs that has that. 1600.00 sounds like a good deal. Since it had Forged Mahle Pistons, Scat Crank and Scat H beam rods.
I am just gonna take my time on this one and get an extra block and start building on it in the garage a little at a time. So I can go over 5000.00.
That looks like a great set up Paul.
