Default LT1 vs LT5 Cost Question

Why would a remanufactured LT5 cost less than a remanufactured LT1? I priced them both today, and the LT1 was about $1900 and the LT5 was about $1700. The core charge was less too.

Let me know where I can get a working LT5 for $1700+smaller core than LT1. I'll take all of them.

I HOPE you mean LT4, because even thinking for a minute the LT5 costs under double digit (rebuilt and all that is, not a pull) is just, well I'll save the degrading comments

If you're serious, not being sarcastic, then its a special engine that came in the C4 ZR1 Corvette for only 1 or 2 years I believe. Equivalent in power to the LS2.

Extremely rare, obscenely expensive, nearly non existant aftermarket....but responds to mods so well you look at it and it makes horsepower

Apparantly they love turbos...

All I know is the guy asked me if it was a ZR1, so I said yes to see what it cost. I would imagine it is just the long block. Didn't all ZR1s come with the LT5 in 95?

Keep in mind that the TT version makes well over 500ftlbs of tq. That 12.7 rating is with factory street tire tech from 1990, which we have come a loooong way from. It would be much quicker with modern DR's out back.

i used to work at advance auto parts and just for the hell of it i checked out what our cost would be for the lt1, lt4 and the lt5 what was weird was that the lt4 was cheaper than the lt1 and couldn't in a million years get an lt5 so the guy apparently looked up the lt4 instead of the lt5

The reason is, is because you send in your LT4 to be refurbished. I looked up a 429 Super Cobra Jet and it was only $800 long block. So I called in and ask WTF, and that's what they do. R&R your motor.

^^Yup, 32 Valve DOHC

Another interesting thing about it is that it has the same Bore X Stroke as a LS1...
