Default OBDII software + tuning software + laptop = ???

now that I got a laptop a month or so ago, i definitely want to turn it into a mobile scanner/tuner.

Is there a company that sells something like this, thats good?

I want something to make my laptop like a big snap on scanner. You know, play with the relays in certain cars (fog lights, head lights, IAC movement, a/c clutch, etc.)... and check DTCs... also maybeeee delete the rear o2s on my t/a when i put a ORY on it so it can pass emissions! (readiness ***)

i googled OBDII laptop, and theres so much crap my head hurts

You have 3 options for OBDII LT1:

1) LTI Edit, can be purchased through www.carputing.com. Not sure if there is a data logging solution that uses this hardware.

2) Jet Dynamic Spectrum Tuner, can be purchased through Summit or Jegs. You can purchase MXscan software (www.monodax.com) to do data logging using the same hardware interface. MXscan is a little buggy, but I've been getting by with it.

3) Switch to OBDI, and get Tunercat software. This is probably the cheapest route, but you'll need a new PCM.

I've been using Jet DST for over a year now, and have successfully set up a 1.5 bar speed density tune with it along with MXscan. I've changed numerous other settings also.

I don't believe this allows you to change any parameters in the tune. If scanning sensor data and checking DTC's is all you need, then this will do the trick. You won't be able to delete your O2's or anything along these lines with this unit though.

I think it is all sold under the Jet name now

I didn't notice AutoTap mentioned in there. I did see EFI live (made by same people) mentioned on that link but, I think EFI live is only for 98 and newer just like HPtuners (*******!). AutoTap is a scantool for OBDII that I have and use. To delete and mess with the cars tune, I use LT1edit. By far, not the cheapest route and I haven't seen enough to know if its the best or worst either. Just my $0.02.

im not looking for an all in 1 deal. just looking for what i need to do tuneing like i said, deleting my rear o2s... making the fans turn on sooner..

and also software that will let me read my car like a scanner, and test relays and ****. so i can be the guy with the scanner out of my circle of friends

I looked at autotap.com, and they look very good. I sent them an email.

now I just need tuning software, so i assume lt1edit

the lt1edit price chart is confusing...

"OBD-II PCM Expert Editor/Programmer Package. Unlimited # of PCM's $2000 "

wtf? 2grand? no way...

Buy the jet software! It will scan any f-body plus tune any f-body thats the same year! Dont Buy lt-1 edit. I will buying the jet software when I can afford it. I am currently using proscan for a scan tool, it works good but you cant tune! http://www.myscantool.com

For autotap you need to get the basic program and the GM enhanced parameters, it is like $300 total.

Can these programs create data logging to log your runs? I am in the same boat looking for the best program for data logging.

AutoTap does logging.. I have it but haven't had to much experience. Not sure if its my 1.6Ghz laptop or the program, or just the way it goes with OBDII but, the more and more stuff you try to monitor at the same time, the slower it refreshes the values. Like monitoring speed and only speed will be wicked fast and accurate to the second (or so it seems) but, if you try to monitor O2's, RPM, speed, and 15-20 other things at the same time they all tend to be not as fast. Anyone know if thats just an AutoTap or OBDII thing? I find it hard to believe its the laptop.

Both Autotap and LT1Edit come with everything you need, including cables.
Personally, I would go with Jet if I had it to do again. It is more flexible, and just as expensive. Both apps are VIN locked, which is a pita. Jet is actually OBDII Tunercat, which Jet purchased from Tunercat.
The $2k priced LT1Edit will tune many cars, which I believe means that it is not VIN locked. If you have a shop, or many LT1s to tune, it would pay for itself.
Autotap does not turn off the O2 sensors, but will delete codes and do datalogging. It is not very robust, however, and replaying the logs does not usually let the graphs replay. But it will let you watch the parameters change during replay, and will export a comma delimited file for use in Excel. The reason it slows down when you log many parameters is probably due to poor programming practices by Autotap. There are other OBDII scanning software solutions out there, but I have not tried any of them yet.
I believe LT1Edit will let you turn off the O2 sensors, but I have not tried it yet.
