Default Help me out guys!!

Hey guys, im trading my 96 Z28 LT1 M6 for a 94 Z28 LT1 A4. As of now his car had the motor rebuilt and the trans rebuilt 20,000 miles ago. The Transmission has upgraded stainless steel parts and coverted to an 8 disc clutch pack, he said it was stage 2. Motor has no mods but was rebuilt. Also has 3.73's in the rear end. He claimed the old owner ran a mid 13 second quearter with just these mods. Is this possible? Also he has a new MSD Opti/Cap/Rotor and a new FPR and Fuel Pump. The thing is one day when he was drivin it home he had a miss and it started sputtering like it wasn't getting fuel and then when he got home it died. So he replaced the opti and fuel stuff i have listed above. It still won't crank. What could this be? Im trading him for my car because my paint is beat to ****, body is in ok shape, and interior is startin to fall apart. Also my tranny needs rebuilt. But after all this and all the new things i have added its worth the trade. His body/paint/interior is in great shape but he cant get it to do anything. He said its gettin great spark but he doesn't know whats wrong. Maybe a clogged fuel filter is what came to my mind?? Well LMK what you think about all this and get back to me, any input will be appreciated. Thanks - Zack

If he replaced everything that he said he did and it still wont start you may be looking at some deeper rooted problems. Usually a clogged fuel filter will let the car start and it will run into problems during acceleration. I am thinking there is some kind of timing issue. The car may be more trouble than its worth.

a couple of things, one are you 100% certian he is getting good spark, and two hook a fuel pressure guage up to it, and post the readings with the key on (make sure this reading holds for a little while), and while cranking. from there, I have seen/helped a few friends reinsall their msd distributor because they got the o-ring on the dist. cap put on wrong and it wouldn't fire, but it was getting intermittent spark.. do the above and let us know what you find out...
Hope this helps

Did you put a new coil on when you did the opti.
some time when the opti gose it takes the coil with it. That is what I would look at.

also it is possible that it mid 13s. I ran mid 13s with bolt ons and stock 3.23 gears

Good luck with your car man

well define "rebuilt" to start with, then you might find your problem, you need good spark to light the good fuel and good air mix, if one or more is not up to par then you will not have a running engine

He did all the work himself and he had many LT1/LS1 people help him. He has yet to check anything with a pressure gauge but i planning on doing that when i receive the car. What i mean by rebuilt is the engine was completely rebuilt 20,000 miles ago along with the tranny(just built this to handle HP). First things first ill check the opti out and make sure #1 Cylinder is on TDC on compression and ill check the fuel filter. Im thinkin i may need to replace the Fuel filter anyway because he did have problems accelerating.. ran ok but when accelerated it just started to die because it wasnt gettin enough fuel. Also could this be an injector problem?? And as for the car being more trouble then its worth, well im trading off a car that will need more money into it then the car im receiving. The car im receiving has good paint/interior/body and rebuilt motor and trans with less miles on the chassis. My paint is **** body is dented windshields front and back need replaced, interior is fallin apart, motor is strong but starting to fade, and tranny is going any minute now. Plus i get to keep my rims and tires with the deal. Also his is t-top mine is hard which is another big plus. This will be my winter project and in my tech class i have the tools to make it run and diagnose it. But LMK anymore suggestions and what else it could possibly be! Thanks - Zack

"It will run very good if you can figure out why it won't fire, it's something stupid and I had a shop look at it and they miss diagnosed it so I ended up replacing the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, opti, cap, rotor, spark plugs, spark plug wires, coolant sensor, fuel filter, it newer pads and rotors on the brakes." This is a quote from a PM on my local racing website directly from him. Ill have to hear the car in person to maybe see what could be up.

I'd be pretty scared of trading my working car with a broken trans for a car with undiagnosed fuel/spark problems.

^^ But my motor has 140k miles and will need rebuilt and my trans will go any minute and his is already rebuilt with upgrades. So this is far to me. You would have to see pics of the damage on my car to see what im sayin. But first things first Monday ill be checknig fuel pressure and if thats the problem ill be takin the FPR out and puttin it back in right. If thats not the problem the timing will be checked. Also can a knock sensor affect my car not starting?
