Default exahust manifold bolt screwed up

howdy

i have a 1994 Z28

i have a bolt thats broke even with the block (i believe) that is closest to the firewall. and now there is an exhaust leak right around where it is (i can reach my hand back and feel the air coming out when the car is on.

few questions about this now.

1) would there be any way to jack leg a fix? even if it is only temporary

2) would fixing this be something average joe could do?

any suggestions or input would be greatly apprecated

About the only thing you can do is pull the head and get it fixed there isn't enough room to do anything in the car.

Take the car to a exhaust shop and have them tack weld a nut to the broken bolt.It is possible i have seen it done and done it my self.Dont worry you will not mess up the aluminum head as long as its done carefully. It should'nt take much torque to get it out.

You will probably need to loosen the exhaust manifold and drop it down to do this.

If you're planning to upgrade to headers anytime soon, then you wouldn't have to remove it. Theres 2 bolt holes on the end, manifolds use the outside and headers use the inside.

Most headers you will have to modify at least to the cat, maybe to the axle.

You could go with Mac shorty headers, the use the other holes and come with all the AIR fittings and a Y-pipe. Think you might need to have a flange welded for the cat? but you have a good excuse to add headers. Allot easier then pulling the head too!
