Default door panels are a bitch!!

hey guys, is there any trick to taking of the door panels or is it just one of those jobs that's gonna **** you off (especially putting them back on)? i was trying to take off the driver's side earlier to see how hard it would be to take out the door bar and couldn't get it to come loose at the center, but it appeared that everything was free. putting it back in place was even tricker and i just got frustrated and left one of the clips off cuz i couln't get it back on.

Far more to the point, cutting out the internal door bar is retarded. Suicidal? Or do you already have a full 25.5 cage to keep you from dying in an accident?

FWIW, I bet your insurance company would refuse medical coverage if you got hurt in a car you had removed that door bar from.

Are you trying to replace the window motor? If so the article that Super Speed posted is good and in depth but is the hard way, Dont know if it is the same but I replaced my motor in a 95 Z, Drilled three holes through the inner panel, then drilled out the three rivets holding the Motor Only and pulled only the Motor out. The kit came with the screws to replace the rivets. Total time to replace the motor, 30 minutes.........

Exactly! I'm thinking He's about to have hell with those door bars if the panels are causing problems.

I took my door panels off, I thought it was easy! Putt it back on wasn't even that hard, but getting all the little tabs to slip in, was slightly hard. But by no means a PITA. And I'd have to say thats my first door panel job heh.

Not sure why a few of you are having problems with the door panels. I found them extremely easy to take off, myself. Once all of the screws are out, put your hands behind the panel at the bottom and work your way up the sides. Once the clips are loose, pull the entire panel up to get it off the top rail, from there, its just a matter of removing it from the door.

I was not going to do it but I was standing there looking at the 1 5/8ths Chromemoly bars in the door and figured if any thing gets through them I am done anyways

If you just want to take the door panel off that article covers it pretty good. Key points: make sure you get all four big screws, and lift up, not out. One thing that article doesn't mention is that you need to disconnect the tweeters once you have lifted the door panel off the door, the tweeters are in the panel itself, while the main speaker is in the door. This wouldn't apply if you didn't have the monsoon/premium audio system.

Well, guess your car doesn't have clips. I don't know what to tell you. My 95 firebird has a few clips around the edges. Or maybe I'm just imagining them.

There's kinda like fingers/clips at the bottom of the panel that slide into slots in the door, if that's what you're referring to? That's what I was talking about, that are kinda hard to get every one of them in. I noticed on the driver side door, I missed one of them in front :\ Not a big deal really, there's like 10 of them.
