Default Items needed for a cam swap...

I'm thinking of going with the cc503 and getting 1.6 rockers, springs (idk what kind, im open to suggestions), and a new timing chain, does anyone have any ideas what else to get?

and do you think a car with 116k on the clock can handle the cc 503?

i would get bigger injectors, fuel pump would be good too, look into a better clutch and tune. you dont really need these things but it would help the cam work to it potential

As far as springs go...I posted the same question yesterday and I've read numerous threads about which springs to go with. I plan on using the cc503 as well and a lot of people recommended these springs:

I just picked up a set of crane gold 1.6 RR's as well....now I just gotta buy the cam. Good luck with your modding.

Others have asked this question and usually most responses say the LT1 is just getting broken in by this point and should be good for a while. I hope thats the case b/c I have 113k and I am doing a cam and 1.6 RR as well. Good Luck with your build.

now, more stupid questions -

what are locks and guides? and what are they for and what do they do. I've seen people refer to them but idk what they are.

There is alot of info if you do some searching. Your motor should be fine. I would consider a custom cam...like Lloyd Elliots stuff he could also educate you on the lock and guides.

see the problem with that is that custom cams cost money, something i dont really have. how much more, im not sure about. i really like the 503s stats and how well they supposedly work with stock heads. i dont plan on changing out my heads or porting them any time soon, SO i need something that works well with them as is. i think the cc 503 is around $312 on the comp cams site. if theres anywhere else thats cheaper, id like to know.

but now im wondering, how much is a custom cam, generally, im aware that you cant give me specifics. but it has to be more than $300... right?

The cc503 is 245 + shipping from ws6 store.

I think some of the sponsors on here will do custom cams for the same price as off the shelf cams.

Personally I would not buy a used cam. I would want to start out with the full lift of the cam, and know what conditions it has been used in. A used cam will have less lift from wear (not a lot, but I'm picky about it myself), and you don't know what shape its really in until you have it in your hands. If you can find one that is in pristine shape, and you have detailed close-up pictures of every single lobe, then yeah, I guess you could go that way.

would this cam be too much for a daily driver that sees alot of action in the 1500-2000 rpm range with the occasional wot throttle run?
