Default battery draining. NEED HELP PLEASE!

Well heres my problem my battery seems to be dying as soon as I turn the key to start it. it cranks for maybe 2-3 seconds and then it dies out. but as soon as I turn the key to crank over everything dims. everything dies. even something as simple as pressing my door lock my lights dim. I have a red top optima and charged it quite a bit to try and get it going. I took it to pep boys where I bought it thinking sometihng was wrong with it but they put it on three different testers and they say its good.I don't think its my alternator because it still drains it wen its unplugged. I really think its my battery but they wont give me another one because it didn't fail the test and I don't feel like spending the money on a new one unless I know its the battery wat else can drain my battery? I don't know what it could be. any ideas guys?? thanks

Freddie

Check the alternator even though you don't think it's the problem. There's no proof it COULDN'T be the culprit. That or you have a current draw in the system.

I killed my optima by constantly charging it up, Mine would drain too in a few days and it turned out to be the light in the center console, to check for drain, get a light tester they are about 3 or 4 bucks at your local auto parts, Disconnect one terminal of the battery, doesnt matter which, plug the tester cable to the disconnected cable and to the battery to make a connection, if there is a large drain the tester will be bright, start pulling fuses unitll the light goes out, there will be your drain, Remember though that alarms, clock ect will cause a slight drain so you may see a very dim light, this should be normal

Check your grounds? And not just the main one coming from the battery.

Check power connections on the starter as well.

It's tricky on the optimas, if you have been charging it(trickle charge) I would suggest putting it on a fast charge. I had the same thing happen to mine; I would slow charge it until the battery seemed to have the proper voltage but after a day or so it would drain down again. Then I decided to put it on a fast charge(high voltage) and it seemed to do the trick !

+1 to the checking of your grounds. Guarantee one of them is corroded.
