Default My LT1 LIVES!!

I recently put an LT1 ZF 6 combo in my 1980 vette. To liven it up i installed a CC503 with appropriate roller rockers and springs, ported the heads and installed headers. Last night i got her back together minus the cooling system so i decided to see if she would start. she turned over about 20 times and fired up!!!! ran super smooth. First time ive had the car started in a year!!! cant wait to drive it!!! I was expecting alot more lope out of that cam though. how neccessary is a tune with that cam? I got alot of help from this forum so Thanks Everyone!!!

By your avatar it looks like a sweet ride. Post up some more pics of the build. If I were you I would atleast get a mail order tune asap since it's a speed density car and the parameters of the cpu. aren't that flexible. Get it on the dyno pretty soon. Good luck.

Nice build! The 503 is gonna need a tune or you will be fouling plugs and O2's all the time. Dyno tune for the best but I got a mail order for my setup and it does fine. I think this cam chops real good, check my sig for sound clips.

If you are using the wiring harness and computer out of the 93 Vette it uses chips to change the tune. Unlike the 94-UP LT1's you can load a program(flash the computer) to change it's format. If you need to change the format in a CPU like yours and mine you have to burn a chip. Therefore you will need the program and a chip burner. I am unsure where to find this though. Car is Speed Density right..

If you are utilizing the EFI system that came with that motor originally you have to have your chip burned. If the PCM is from a 94+ then it can be flashed as stated. Either can be done via mail order.

I am also unsure but, I think Speed Denstiy utilizes the map sensor, IAT sensor, and another sensor to set the correct air/fuel ratio for the engine. Maybe another knowledgeable speed denstiy guy will chime in shortly and give some insight on the situation. I would just recommend geting a tune though. PCMforless.com offers mail order tunes. I used them when I was cam only and I was very satisfied with thier product.
