LT1-LT4 Modifications 1993-97 Gen II Small Block V8

Does this sound like a good Idea

Default Does this sound like a good Idea

Well as some of you know i blew the lt1. I can get a used shortblock from a friend for 250 and its got 30k miles on it. I was thinking of reringing it and putting a 503 cam in it. The part that is the question is that Ive got iron heads that will be used on the car temporarily. The whole engine is going to be temporary since I am doing to take my aluminum heads to get ported and build a good shortblock on the block that came in my car. That way I still have a car for relitivly cheap and I will end up with a 375ish rwhp car later.

Sounds good man i would go with the cc306 cam, i made 356 in my m6 with just the cam, and ur going to have heads so u should get along nice

It sounds pretty good to me, maybe consider going with a larger cam because you will have ported heads and a shortblock that will be built so running a larger cam and spinning those rpm's up real high will be possible.

Sounds like a good plan. As far as the iron heads go, don't knock em too badly they outflow the aluminum ones! They are heavier, but in a true street trim they are not enough to really notice.
Time and money would be well spent setting up a good suspension before you make all that power. If you can't get it to the ground its worthless!

Ok good just making sure there wasnt some reason that I shouldnt do that. Im acualy going to get a custom grind when I get the motor built so im thinking that the $220 for a 503 is worth it to run on for a while since it will have stock heads but I will be running a stall in it.

look at the LPE 219/219 im going that cam becaue i live in cal and want to keep it s\mog leagal and still make some power

not a good idea in my book....instead of loosing money, put the money going into the cam, springs, etc....into the new build

The shop that I am going through will knock off another 25% if its a comp cam. The problem is that I can throw an engine together and call it good for a year or so until I can get a 383 built.

since the shortblock is out and you got it hella cheap you should not only re-ring it but instal PERFORMANCE BEARINGS in it,new oil pump,new timing chain,i would use the cc306 on a 110

I also found out that he will throw in a 305 cam for 25 bucks extra. Im going to run some high quality bearings and new timing set. Ill run the 305 cam until I can build the 383 shortblock with the motor that is in my car.
