so i'm going to double roller timing chain + electric water pump....
i have a clearance problem between cover and chain .....
i have put some play-doh putty on the chain at specific points ...installed the cover without gasket , it leaves heavy traces of putty on the cover .
grinded down the lump inside the cover where it rubbed , reinstall cover still leaving small traces on the cover .....
i want to get clearance without going true the cover wall.( seems to be thin )....
what should i do : install double, triple gasket to add clearance ?
will my dowel pin still be long enough to drive the opti?
needing advice from people who did the conversion please!
thanks
Dan ......

I'm running a double roller from a SBC and a 97 timing cover and we rolled the assembly over and had no clearance problems.
Is there a difference between the timing covers of different years?

I am running a similar set-up. I also found it necessary to clearance the inside of the t/c cover but it didn't require a lot of material to be removed. Do you have the thrust plate installed to keep the cam from walking forward when spinning the motor over?

I sure do!( put the thrust plate)
around my place someone did the same i did ( without any clearance verification)...opened up his engine after 2 years ....the timing cover was grinded down inside by all the rubbing
guess where all the particles went?
i removed at least .035 yet! and still traces of play-doh on the cover
with two gaskets , it doesnt seem to touch ...but i wanted to know from others ...
