Possible Rear End Problem?

Possible Rear End Problem? Hey guys hopefully you can help me out with this.
I have a 95 Z28 A4 with 135000 mi. well anyways i was driving it this weekend and hit it hard off the line ( i had a gayed out ricer next to me) and when it shifted from 1st to 2nd the whole car rattled and made a huge thump and now the car wont go into gear at all, just sits there and revs in neutral
I had a differential fluid change about a month ago ( i did it, my dad owns a shop) and it seemed to have seeled fine and i didnt notice any leaks for about a month, but later that evening i did notice a large pool of fluid in my girlfriends driveway that smelled like Diff fluis but to me didnt seem thick enough
any ideas? thanks guys

Sounds more like your transmission to me. What color was the fluid and was it dripping from the rear or the middle of the car? Have you looked under the car to check for fluid leaks? I'm not real good with auto's so I'm not much help when it comes to internal problems

see that was my 1st thought to was that it was the transmission, but the fluid that was in the driveway im 99% wasnt the transmission fluid though i could be wrong. I havnnt had a chance to get the car in the air yet, but im thinking that mayve that diff. fluid slowly leaked out and then my ring and pinion were running dry and i might have snapped something in there but who knows?

i dont know if the driveshaft spins or not, my car is parked outside my dads shop till i have a chance to come home from Purdue again to look at it ( I have a deal with my dad that im allowed to do anything i want with the car as long as i do the work). But as for the grinding, for some time now when i punch it or when it shifts the whole car shudders, thats why i did the diff fluid change in the 1st place, and that helped the problem a little bit until this past weekend lol

Still sounds like a tranny problem to me. So untill you can get in there and look at it we can't tell you, but when you get back to it first try to see if the driveshaft spins and if so pull the diff cover. If nothing is out of the norm well you know its the trans.
