AC delete
i just finished up the !AIR (took 4 hours) cause of the brass pipe going to the pass side
anyways i bought a delete pulley at napa for 1/2 of what the dealer wanted for the 1LE. is there any difference between the two of them?
also, i heard my defrost wont work as well with the AC gone. ive had no freeon in the system for 2 years and ive used the defrost, so would the defrost act like it has been with no freeon in the AC?

i'm probably going to go that route too. Its just an off brand idler pulley and may start making noise in a few years but thats probably all, no harm.
The AC kicks on when you go to defrost, if its been defrosting ok for you then don't even worry about it. Its different w/ every climate so it will affect some more than others.

i cut the pipe in 6 places ****** had so many bends.
yea my defrost has been working even though i have no freeon, i wanted to make sure there is a difference with and without it in the system.
i saw that the napa delete pulley is bigger than the 1LE, so i know that may affect the 1-2crankhp id gain, but i was worried about the stress of the pulley size against the crank, i was thinking the smaller 1LE would be better for it.

for my ac delete i have the big pulley on mine and it works great, there is no difference between the big and small pulley version as far as drag goes, they just look different. my defrost works great as well, the heat is what u want anyways for that so no adverse effects from takin the ac off. i had a pretty simple time takin the a.i.r. off as well, one cut in the middle of the tube on the bottom and slid both sides out the bottom. no ac makes it a lot easier to wiggle out with the extra room.

how did you cut the AIR tube in the middle??? i couldnt even fit the angle grinder in there.
btw for weight savings, the .000000000001 gram of metal the grinder took off the sway bar makes up for the AC compressor it was either it hitting the pulley or the sway bar.
has anyone been concerned about a rock deflecting off the air dam, and hitting the radiator after pulling the condensor?

once all the AIR stuff is removed and the tube is unbolted u can just grab it from the very bottom and pull down and eventualy with a lil elbow grease u can get it down several inches below the sway bar to make it easy to cut, just be carful of the ignition wires because the tube can catch on them if you are not careful.
i have had my ac off, including the condensor, for almost a year now and the radiator doesnt appear to be taking any damage at all, although when i took my condensor out, that has been there for 10+ years, it didnt appear to have taken much hits either, so i think you are safe

Y would the defrost not work if you pull the A/C? If that were the case, the 1le car wouldnt be able to be manufactured because it wouldnt pass saftey specifications. I think you will be just fine!
RevZ28 can you PM a link to where you got your hood? And maybe a few more pic? Sorry about the thread jack.

i got the cheap pulley for mine and right off the bat it didn't line up with the other pulleys and it shreaded my brand new $30 belt. after shimming it to align it (by gm not me) it now squeals like a wounded pig most of the time. i hate it, can't wait to put another ac compressor on.

haha maybe im just lucky... i got everything off and out in less then an hour and that includes using a hand saw to cut the tube! and boy o boy does it look better with all that crap and vacuum lines gone as well, really great mod to help clean up an engine compartment
