Default Cam Question

I've been looking into different cams for a while. I was looking into them before I even got the car. Last night, I came across this Lunati cam. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...t=lun-501a4lun. I was just looking for some peoples' opinions on it. Before, I was looking into getting a CC305 with 1.6rr's, but this cam is a little bit bigger. It has a little more duration and also another .21" of lift with 1.6rr's. The operating range seems perfect since I shift at around 5800-6000rpms. I was just wanting thoughts about running it on stock heads. Price seems a little high for it (about $100 more than the CC305), but I can do more searching for a better deal. Any ideas on what I'd probably be looking at power-wise if I had that accompanied by some Pacesetter LT's and a true duals setup?

First off advertised operation ranges are never accurate (comp cams claims the cc306 operation range to be from 1800-5800) which is wayyy off. Also you do not shift at the rpm range unless you want your car to be slower than it was before the cam install. You have to shift a few hundred rpm's after where your car makes power. I run the cc503 which is a 224/230 compared to the Lunati 226/234 and I need to shift at 6400-6500 so expect to shift at 6500-6600. Why the 305 which is on a 114lsa and this on a 112? they will sound completely different. You can get the 305 some places on a 112 however. This cam is a little large for stock heads IMO and you can expect some cam surge.

I don't think its necessarily too big for stock heads. People have made good power with the comp 230/236 on stock heads which is larger. Definitely needs to spin higher than 5800 though. Actually I had never seen this cam before. Looks like a good option to me maybe for people that want a little more than the 503.

Oh, I see. And yes, StealthFormula, I planned on getting the CC305 with a 112lsa. It's not really too safe to take the stock block up past 6000rpm too far though, is it?

The bottom end usually lasts below 6500 pretty well, unless you have really high miles and very worn bearings. It's the top end (valvesprings, pushrods, etc) that you need to make sure are solid.

The number I have heard the most is 6300. I think it really depends more on condition of the motor and luck and stuff like that but if I was you I wouldnt be afraid to shift it up that high. I think the 305 on a 112 would be a nice choice if you dont want to risk anything and maybe even the 503. Like infinite said thats kinda of a cool cam to go with for those looking to go a bit larger than the cc503, I like the split in duration it offers.

I had never seen it either. I was just looking around at different cam options on Oreilly's website and came across it. The only places that I can find that sell it are, Summit and Oreillys. Oreillys didn't have a price though and it says you have to call the store to special order(can't even order it off their site). So, sometime, I'm going to go in and talk to the guys there and figure out their price for it. I also looked through the Lunati website and can't find it in their catalogue. I'm thinking it's probably an older cam that they're not making anymore.
